Carers Week 2011 was a huge success and there was some fantastic coverage about the many issues facing carers. This round up of the week (with a social media slant) from SocietyGuardian http://ow.ly/5lFrw features two videos produced by our sister organisation www.sounddelivery.org.uk . Carers Week might be over but we need to continue to keep the discussions and conversations around carers issues in the spotlight.
Next week soundinnovation through its Give Us a Break initiative will be highlighting the importance of breaks for carers. We have been working with the Hampshire based charity Carers Together to provide local carers a much needed break in London. Some of our visitors are at breaking point and several haven’t had a break for years. A couple have never had a break away from their caring role. London businesses and funders have shown their support for this by providing funds and generous gifts. We can’t change the situation facing many of our guests but we can make sure their time spent away is relaxing and enjoyable.
We couldn’t have predicted it, but unfortunately a tube strike in London has been scheduled for during that time. So with the trip planned we’re now calling on Boris Johnson, Mayor of London, to put pressure on the RMT to call it off.
We’ll keep you updated.
